Adam Driver Confirms Villain Role in Michael Mann's Heat 2

Driver will play Otis Wardell in the prequel-sequel, which starts filming next year after pre-production ramps up in December.

Adam Driver has confirmed he will play Otis Wardell, the central villain in Michael Mann's Heat 2, according to movieweb.com. The actor made the confirmation during a press appearance on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

Driver said Mann plans to tour him around the film's Los Angeles locations that Friday. He also said pre-production will ramp up in December, with filming starting next year. The production is confirmed to shoot in Chicago, Los Angeles, Paraguay and Singapore.

Driver described the Heat 2 script as more condensed and streamlined than the book, calling it "a missile."

Long road to confirmation

Rumors of Driver's involvement in the Heat 2 adaptation had circulated since 2023. The first informal confirmation came from co-star Stephen Graham's casting update in September 2025. Heat 2, which serves as both a prequel and sequel to Mann's 1995 crime thriller Heat, is Driver's and Mann's second collaboration after 2023's Ferrari.

Mann previously hinted that cost was a primary reason the project moved to Amazon and United Artists after plans fell through with Warner Bros. Insiders told The Wrap that Heat 2's budget is set at $165 million and that a third installment is already being plotted.
