Andy Richter Says The Edge Wrote a Finished Elf Sequel Script

Richter said on Obsessed: The Podcast that the U2 guitarist's Elf sequel script was never made, and that Scot Armstrong wrote a separate version.

Andy Richter said that The Edge, guitarist for U2, wrote a fully completed script for a sequel to Elf, and that the project was never made. Richter told the story on the podcast Obsessed: The Podcast, according to Variety.

Richter said producer Shauna Robertson was contacted about The Edge's script and met him, but the project petered out. Robertson produced the original film.

He also described a second, separate sequel script written by Scot Armstrong, which involved evil South Pole elves kidnapping Santa.

Elf, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Will Ferrell as Buddy, was released in theaters in 2003. Richter appeared briefly in the film as one of Walter Hobbs' colleagues, and he credited Armstrong with helping write Elf, though Armstrong was uncredited for guild and procedural reasons.

Richter co-wrote the book Elf Unwrapped: Behind the Scenes of a Modern Christmas Classic, which was released on the Tuesday before the article.
