Nolan: The Odyssey Credits Carry First AI-Training Warning

Speaking on the Hollywood Insiders podcast, the filmmaker said the legal notice barring AI ingestion of The Odyssey is the first of its kind in end-credit boilerplate.

Christopher Nolan said the end credits of The Odyssey carry a legal warning stating the film cannot be ingested and used as training data, and that it is the first time such a message has appeared in boilerplate. The filmmaker made the comments on the Hollywood Insiders podcast, according to deadline.com.

Nolan said he was very pleased that the notice is attached to his current film, which is an Academy Award contender. He framed the warning as a studio-level decision rather than a guild one, saying the protection of copyrighted films from AI rests with the studios, not the DGA.

According to Nolan, the Directors Guild of America is focused on holding the studios to account for protecting their copyrights, rather than issuing such notices itself.

Guild role and earlier comments

Nolan was elected DGA president in September 2025 after serving on the Guild's Artificial Intelligence Committee. In comments to Deadline after his election, he said there are excellent protections in place against AI but that they are not enough.
