Sandoval, Oriahi and Horvát Discuss New Films at BFI London Film Festival
Isabel Sandoval called Moonglow a why-did-she-do-it story, while Daniel Oriahi presented his Yoruba-household drama at the LFF 2026 tea session.
Filmmakers Isabel Sandoval, Daniel Oriahi and Lili Horvát discussed their latest films at a Filmmaker Afternoon Tea session held during the 70th BFI London Film Festival, according to hollywoodreporter.com.
Sandoval wrote, directed and stars in Moonglow, a neo-noir set in 1970s Manila about a police officer turned criminal who is under investigation by her former lover. She told the session the film is a why-did-she-do-it story rather than a whodunnit, and that it subverts elements of the genre.
Sandoval said Moonglow is her second film to address martial law in the Philippines, and that it conveys the era's violence and repression only through radio snippets heard outside the frame. She added that she is developing a new project about a covert CIA psyop set in the Philippines in the 1960s.
Oriahi directed and co-wrote the adaptation of Lola Shoneyin's novel The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives, set in a traditional Yoruba household in Nigeria. He shares writing credit with Adze Ugah, Heidi Uys and Mo Abudu.
Horvát wrote and directed My Notes on Mars, which stars Mackenzie Davis and Rupert Friend as a North American couple living in Hungary. She described the film as a sci-fi puzzle that plays with sci-fi tropes and genre conventions.
Earlier work
Sandoval previously directed Lingua Franca, and Oriahi directed the thriller The Weekend, which explored in-law dynamics. The 70th BFI London Film Festival closed with its winners unveiled on the Sunday, the article said.
