Blake Crouch Criticizes Marvel's Multiverse Use Ahead of Dark Matter Finale
The Dark Matter creator told SlashFilm he has little respect for Marvel treating multiverses as a plot device, ahead of the Season 2 finale on October 30, 2026.
Blake Crouch, creator of the Apple TV series Dark Matter, said he does not have extraordinary respect for Marvel's approach of using multiverses as a plot device in its films, in an interview with SlashFilm. The comments arrive ahead of the Season 2 finale of Dark Matter, which streams on Apple TV on October 30, 2026.
Crouch said his series uses parallel worlds to explore character rather than to drive plot. He cited a line from his 2016 novel in which protagonist Jason Dessen realizes he is one facet of a multifaceted man, and said the show presents multiple facets of most of its main cast, not only of Jason.
The creator also acknowledged that earlier shows, including Sliders, explored multiverses before his book. He said his novel was one of the first times a multiverse story crossed into the mainstream, and noted that when people accused the series of riding the multiverse trend, he responded that it came first.
