James Gunn Praises Tom Rhys Harries in Clayface on Character's 65th Anniversary
DC Studios boss James Gunn marked 65 years since Matt Hagen's debut in Detective Comics #298 with a post praising Tom Rhys Harries' lead performance.
James Gunn publicly praised Tom Rhys Harries' lead performance in Clayface, in a post on Twitter marking the 65th anniversary of Matt Hagen's debut in Detective Comics #298, according to gamesradar.com.
Harries plays Matt Hagen in the live-action film. Gunn, the DC Studios boss, tied the anniversary to the actor's work in the title role.
Director James Watkins said the film focuses on Matt Hagen's story, rather than Batman's.
Hagen's version of Clayface was popularised by the two-part Batman: The Animated Series episode "Feat of Clay" in 1992. A different Clayface, Basil Karlo, voiced by Alan Tudyk, appeared in Harley Quinn, and Karlo's version also featured in Batman: Arkham City.
Before the live-action film, Hagen's Clayface appeared in the animated series Creature Commandos.
