Bleecker Street Confirms 'Musk' Documentary Will Hit US Theaters October 9
Bleecker Street CEO Kent Sanderson says the Elon Musk documentary will open October 9 despite legal threats and Universal's reported hesitation.
Bleecker Street will release the documentary Musk in US theaters on October 9, CEO Kent Sanderson said, reaffirming the distributor's plans despite legal threats from Elon Musk and reports that Universal Pictures was getting cold feet about its overseas release.
Universal Pictures holds foreign rights to the film and, according to IndieWire, is not backing down. Musk has threatened legal action over the documentary.
The film has already faced friction online: Facebook and YouTube initially refused to run ads for Musk before backtracking.
The release lands in the middle of a busy fall slate for Bleecker Street that also includes Tender Loving Care, The Liberation, A Talent for Murder and Victorian Psycho. The Liberation carries a dedication to Bleecker Street founder Andrew Karpen.
Karpen died in 2025 at age 59 after battling brain cancer. In recent years the company had stepped back from fall awards-season releases, pivoting instead to getting involved at the script stage on films like The Liberation and Tender Loving Care rather than acquiring completed films at festivals. Karpen's wife Pam, his two sons and his grandchild attended the Telluride premiere of The Liberation.
