Channing Tatum Still Pushing for Standalone Gambit Movie

Tatum says three directors were attached to the Gambit film at different points, and he is now waiting for a very, very good director.

Channing Tatum said he is still fighting to get a standalone Gambit movie made, according to gamesradar.com. The actor, who plays the X-Men character, said he continues to push for the project years after it stalled.

Tatum said three different directors were signed on to the Gambit film at various points. He said the first director departed after a falling out with Fox.

According to Tatum, the third attempt nearly moved forward with Gore Verbinski before the studio, the director and Tatum grew apart creatively. He also said Shawn Levy was interested in directing an earlier Gambit script, around 2014, but Tatum and producing partner Reid Carolin were not ready at the time.

Tatum said he is waiting for a very, very good director to realise the film.

Earlier attempts and Deadpool and Wolverine

A standalone Gambit movie starring Tatum was greenlit in 2014. The film was cancelled in 2019 when Disney acquired Fox. Tatum later appeared as Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine, released in 2024; in a deleted scene from that film, Gambit escapes the Void.
