Cher "adores" Michael Douglas after his Oscar remarks, rep says
A representative for Cher told Entertainment Weekly that Cher adores Michael Douglas, after Douglas said Glenn Close should have won the 1988 best actress Oscar.
A representative for Cher said the singer and actress adores Michael Douglas, Entertainment Weekly reported, after Douglas's remarks about the 1988 Oscar race drew attention online.
Douglas said on a recent episode of The Graham Norton Show that Glenn Close should have won the best actress Oscar for Fatal Attraction, noting that Cher won instead for Moonstruck. "That's what we all said," he added, according to the account of the episode.
Close responded to Douglas by telling him to be kind.
Cher won best actress at the 60th Academy Awards in April 1988 for Moonstruck, over a field that included Close, who was nominated for Fatal Attraction. Moonstruck was nominated for six Oscars and also won adapted screenplay and supporting actress for Olympia Dukakis; Fatal Attraction was nominated for six and won none.
Close is set to receive an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards this month. She had previously been nominated for best supporting actress three times, for The World According to Garp, The Big Chill and The Natural, before later nominations for Dangerous Liaisons, Albert Nobbs, The Wife and Hillbilly Elegy.
