David Martinez has stepped down as executive director of the Raindance Film Festival, ending a tenure that began when he joined the organization in 2012. According to Variety, Martinez spent more than a decade with the festival, first as a producer and programmer for Latin American territories before being appointed executive director five years ago.
Martinez said he will continue advocating for independent filmmakers through Casa Leo PR, the agency he launched this year with former Raindance producer Jacky Orozco.
During his time at Raindance, Martinez launched several initiatives, including House of Raindance, Raindance XR, the Raindance Script Competition, its LGBTQ+ strand and the Cannes Villa Party. Audience attendance also doubled compared to previous years under his leadership.

Casa Leo PR now represents Mexican filmmaker Santiago Maza and the documentary short Black Shine. The film is set to hold its world premiere at the Morelia Film Festival, which runs from October 16 to 25 for its 24th edition.
