Eli Roth Says Peacock Passed on the Hostel TV Series

The director says he and Chris Briggs wrote scripts he loves for the adaptation, and he still wants to continue the franchise.

Eli Roth has said that Peacock passed on the planned Hostel television series and will not move forward with it, according to bloody-disgusting.com. The director revealed the decision while discussing the project, which had been in development at the streaming service.

Roth said he and Chris Briggs wrote scripts for the series that he loves. Paul Giamatti had been attached to star in the adaptation.

Despite the pass, Roth said he still wants to continue Hostel, possibly in a form other than a television series. He did not give details on what that would look like.

From film franchise to streaming

The original Hostel was released in 2005, set in a world where the rich pay to torture and murder captured victims. Roth returned to direct Hostel: Part II in 2007, and Hostel: Part III followed in 2011 with the late Scott Spiegel as director.

In the summer of 2025, it was reported that the franchise would return as a television series in development at Peacock. The interview in which Roth discussed the project ran earlier in the summer and was uploaded to YouTube on August 4, 2026.
