Glen Mazzara's Unproduced 'Hater' Script Released in The Stunt List

The screenplay adapts David Moody's novel series about a rage virus and was written before Mazzara ran The Walking Dead.

Glen Mazzara's feature-length screenplay for an adaptation of David Moody's Hater has been released for reading as part of this year's The Stunt List showcase, according to bloody-disgusting.com. The script appears in The Dead List, the horror-themed strand among the three showcases that make up this year's Stunt List.

Hater adapts Moody's novel series about a rage virus that turns ordinary people into violent killers. Mazzara wrote the adaptation before he became showrunner of The Walking Dead.

The Dead List also features other unproduced scripts, including Hide Behind by Richard Martin, Medusa by Ruby Mainieri, Absorbed by Helena Hawkes and Miranda Divozzo, and Housewife by Greta Guthrie and Jake Lazarow.

Long road to the page

The project dates back some time: in 2008 it was announced that Mazzara would adapt Moody's novel, with Juan Antonio Bayona attached to direct. In 2015 the film was set to be directed by J.A. Bayona and produced by Mark Johnson and Guillermo del Toro.

The Stunt List has previously surfaced unproduced material from Mazzara: in 2024 it revealed his unaired pilot script for an unmade television adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.
