Godzilla -0.0 Team Recorded Roar at Miyagase Dam
Sound effects artist Natsuko Inoue said the team mounted NEXO speakers on a bridge facing the dam's discharge wall to capture a new roar.
The sound effects team on Godzilla -0.0 recorded the monster's roar at Miyagase Dam in Kanagawa Prefecture, sound effects artist Natsuko Inoue said, according to cinematoday.jp. The team placed a large speaker on a bridge facing the dam's discharge wall to capture the sound.
The roar itself is the same original Godzilla cry used in Godzilla Minus One. Inoue, who handled sound effects on that film and returns for Godzilla -0.0, described how the recording was carried out.
NEXO-brand speakers of the kind used at outdoor live events were carried onto the bridge and assembled by the team. The first recording, Inoue said, came out too similar to the ZOZO Marine Stadium recording.
To get a different sound, the team moved the speakers right up to the wall and ran them at maximum volume.
Godzilla -0.0 is the series' first title billed as "Filmed for IMAX" and was produced in Dolby Atmos. It is currently in theaters nationwide in Japan.
Earlier roar captured at a stadium
In Godzilla Minus One (2023), the original Godzilla roar was recorded at ZOZO Marine Stadium using the venue's main speakers. That film won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
