James Gunn Says Harley Quinn Is Almost Certainly Coming to the DCU

Gunn said Margot Robbie would decide whether her Suicide Squad films remain canon, and he may recast if she does not return.

James Gunn said Harley Quinn is a character he is almost certainly going to use in the DC Universe, according to comingsoon.net. The DC Studios CEO also said Margot Robbie would have to decide whether her Suicide Squad films remain canon to the DCU.

Gunn said he may cast another actor as Harley Quinn if Robbie does not return, in order to avoid ties to the character's previous film storyline. He noted that incorporating this version of Harley into his DC Universe is difficult because the Joker has not yet been established.

Robbie most recently played Harley Quinn in DC's 2021 movie The Suicide Squad, which Gunn directed. She previously played the character in Suicide Squad in 2016 and in Birds of Prey in 2020.

Gunn's comments were made on the now-deleted DC Studios Showcase podcast.
