Jamie Dornan Addresses Pressure of Playing Aragorn in The Hunt for Gollum
Dornan told L'Officiel he feels honored to follow Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn and is not trying to outdo him in the Lord of the Rings film.
Jamie Dornan has spoken publicly for the first time about taking over the role of Aragorn from Viggo Mortensen in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, telling L'Officiel that he feels pressure in following Mortensen's performance, according to slashfilm.com.
Dornan said he will do his best, but that Aragorn will always be Viggo Mortensen for him, calling Mortensen's work one of his all-time favorite performances. He added that he feels honored to try to recapture some of the energy Mortensen brought to the character and that he is not trying to outdo him.
His co-star Leo Woodall, who plays a character named Halvard, also weighed in on the recasting, saying that his Aragorn is now Jamie Dornan.
Who is making The Hunt for Gollum
Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the original trilogy, is directing the film, with Peter Jackson involved as a writer and producer. Jackson directed the earlier Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies but is not directing this one.
According to Serkis, Mortensen has given Dornan his seal of approval. Several original cast members, including Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Elijah Wood as Frodo, will reprise their roles.
