K2 Pictures Fund May Reopen After $33 Million Round, Founder Says

Kii Muneyuki told the Taiwan Creative Content Fest that existing backers would have to agree before the fund reopens its equity round.

K2 Pictures founder Kii Muneyuki said the company's film fund could reopen to new investors if its existing backers agree, speaking at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest in Taipei on Saturday, November 7, 2026, according to Variety.

K2P Film Fund I closed a $33 million equity round in February 2026. About 30 companies have invested in the fund, led by MUFG Bank. The equity is being paired with loans that will ultimately total $67 million, for a planned total of $100 million and a target of 50 films over seven years.

Kii also said Hong Kong actor-director Stephen Chow told him Japanese filmmakers should stop imitating kung fu and instead make action films drawn from karate, judo, jujitsu and kendo.

On the production side, K2 unveiled director Nagata Koto's Fukushima-set noir The Nuke Crab at Cannes in May 2026. The film is in development with a shoot targeted for next year. K2 completed six films this year, a pace Kii called pretty tough against a goal of six or seven releases a year.

The company has opened offices in Taiwan and Korea to distribute its films directly in both markets.
