Kathleen Kennedy to Lead Ceremonies for LA 2028 Olympics

The former Lucasfilm president will oversee the opening and closing ceremonies for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

Producer Kathleen Kennedy, former president of Lucasfilm, has been named head of the ceremonies and content division for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kennedy will oversee four ceremonies: the Olympic opening ceremony on July 14, 2028, the Olympic closing ceremony on July 30, 2028, the Paralympic opening ceremony on August 15, 2028, and the Paralympic closing ceremony on August 27, 2028.

She takes the role vacated by Peter Rice, who became Netflix's chief content officer.

Kennedy said she has attended nearly every Games since Los Angeles 1984 and called the Olympics a touchstone of her life. Organizing committee chairman Casey Wasserman called her a legendary figure and one of the greatest in Hollywood history.

Kennedy left Lucasfilm at the end of 2025 after 14 years as its president. She is a producer on the Ryan Gosling-led film Star Wars: Starfighter, due in May next year.
