KM Effects reveals practical Clayface suit built in two weeks

KM Effects has shared behind-the-scenes footage of the practical suit used for Matt Hagen's monster form, which appears near the end of Clayface.

KM Effects has publicly shown off the practical suit used for Matt Hagen's monster form in Clayface, along with behind-the-scenes footage, after the film's release. The monster form appears near the end of the film, which is in theaters now.

Creative director Kristyan Mallett said KM Effects produced prosthetic blood effects, fake dummies, props and VFX lighting models for the film. The suit itself took about two weeks to build, with Clayface parts sculpted as individual pieces before fabrication.

Because of the short timeframe, the team could not core out the suit during moulding, so they cut out excess foam from the inside to create cavities for performer Spencer Wilding, who wore the practical suit.

Francesco Fabiani, a freelance artist, made the test and final sculpts of Clayface's head, each taking a couple of days, according to gizmodo.com.

Background

Before the film's release, the marketing intentionally avoided showing Matt Hagen's final form. KM Effects has also worked on Supergirl and Neuromancer, and Wilding played Kilowog on set in 2011's Green Lantern.
