Author Michael Connelly says Mickey Haller's half-sister, played by Cobie Smulders, fills the part Harry Bosch had in the Resurrection Walk novel.
Michael Connelly, author of the novels behind The Lincoln Lawyer and an executive producer on the Netflix series, said that in season 5 Mickey Haller learns early in the season that he has a half-sister, Emi Finch, a detective. Connelly's comments were reported by screenrant.com.
In the series, the character is played by Cobie Smulders and was created for the adaptation. Connelly said Emi Finch replaces the dynamic Harry Bosch has with Haller in Resurrection Walk, the novel the season is based on, and that the change worked out well.
Season 5 will follow Haller, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, taking on the case of a woman his half-sister says was wrongfully convicted.
Where the character came from
The half-sister reveal follows the season 4 finale, in which a mysterious character claimed to be Haller's sister, leaving that thread open for the new season.
In August, Deadline reported that Netflix was exploring a spin-off starring Smulders as Emi Finch, with executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman writing the script.
