Lu Po-Shun Takes Debut Feature 'Will You Still Be My Friend' to Busan

The Taiwanese film heads to Busan after premiering at San Sebastián and picking up two Golden Horse nominations, with a Taiwan release set for Dec. 4.

Lu Po-Shun is presenting his debut feature "Will You Still Be My Friend" at the Busan International Film Festival, where it screens in the A Window on Asian Cinema strand, according to Variety.

The film arrives in Busan after its premiere at San Sebastián, where all four screenings sold out on the first day of ticket sales and the film stayed among the top three in voting for the festival's youth award. It also received two Golden Horse nominations, for adapted screenplay and for new performer Jaden Wang.

"Will You Still Be My Friend" is scheduled to open theatrically in Taiwan on Dec. 4.

From short film to feature

The feature expands on Lu's short "When Henge Meets Crescent," which was part of the public broadcaster PTS' pandemic anthology "Quarantini." In March, Lu was still seeking final financing for the project when he spoke with Variety.

Set in Yunlin County on Taiwan's southwest coast, the film follows two boys whose friendship comes under pressure as adult conflicts divide their community.
