Netflix Adapting 'American Royals' as TV Series with Ted Malawer

Netflix has acquired Katharine McGee's 'American Royals' for development as a TV series, with Ted Malawer writing and executive producing.

Netflix has acquired the rights to develop Katharine McGee's YA novel American Royals as a television series, the streamer announced. Ted Malawer will write the adaptation and executive produce alongside Leslie Morgenstein.

Warner Bros. Television, which owns Alloy Entertainment, will serve as the studio. Alloy Entertainment is also attached to the project.

The American Royals book series was first published by Ember in 2019. The story imagines an America with a royal family.

Malawer's credits include co-writing the film adaptation of Red, White & Royal Blue and writing on Netflix's limited series Halston. Alloy Entertainment has a track record of book-to-screen adaptations, including Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and You.

Alloy also has The Probability of Miracles in production for Prime Video and the Netflix holiday movie In a Holidaze set for release later this year. Deadline first reported the American Royals development.
