Pamela Abdy Makes First Post-Warner Bros. Appearance at WIF Honors
Abdy said she is taking a break before deciding her next move, amid talk she and Michael DeLuca could land an open film head job at Netflix.
Pamela Abdy made her first public appearance since leaving Warner Bros. at the Women in Film Honors at the Beverly Hilton on Thursday night, where she said she is taking a break before deciding what comes next. Variety interviewed her at the gala.
Abdy said she is currently spending her time at her daughter's volleyball games, and that she will tell everyone once she settles on her next move. Her remarks come amid rumors that she and her longtime producing partner Michael DeLuca could take an open film head job at Netflix.
At the event, Abdy also said she hopes the new combined company can reach its goal of releasing 30 movies a year.
WIF honored Adria Arjona, Beth de Araújo, Gemma Chan and Salma Hayek Pinault at the same gala.
A rapid reversal
On the morning of Oct. 1, Abdy was announced as WIF's inaugural Vanguard Award recipient while serving as co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group alongside DeLuca. Later that night, the pair learned they would not lead the film studio amid the Skydance merger.
Under the duo, Warner Bros. released films including One Battle After Another, Sinners, Barbie, Weapons and Dune: Part Two. The studio's recent misfires include The Bride!, which lost $100 million theatrically this spring, and Digger, its final release as a standalone studio.
