Pattinson Brings 'Primetime' to London Film Festival

Robert Pattinson presented 'Primetime' at the BFI Imax on Sunday, praising the script and the fast two-week production.

Robert Pattinson introduced 'Primetime' at the BFI Imax in London on Sunday night as part of the London Film Festival, appearing as both lead actor and producer on the film. According to Variety, he was joined on stage by director Lance Oppenheim, writer Ajon Singh and co-star Merritt Wever.

Pattinson told the audience that he called Singh the day after reading the script and had Oppenheim on board in less than a week, with the whole project coming together within two weeks.

'Primetime' is scheduled to open in the U.K. on Oct. 30.

From Venice to U.S. Theaters

The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last month, where it drew a seven-minute standing ovation. It opened in U.S. theaters on Sept. 25, grossing $38 million against a $14.5 million budget.

'Primetime' centers on Chris Hansen, host of Dateline NBC's 'To Catch a Predator,' as he moves the show into a primetime slot. It is loosely based on the 2007 Esquire article 'Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die.' The show ended in 2008 after backlash.

Hansen told Variety the movie is a 'complete work of fiction' and that Pattinson's portrayal is 'certainly not flattering.' At the Venice press conference, Pattinson said he hoped Hansen would like the film.
