NBC Sets 'The Rockford Files' Reboot Premiere for January 2, 2027

David Boreanaz leads the reboot, which launches after an NFL game and moves to Thursdays from January 7, 2027.

NBC has set the premiere of its The Rockford Files reboot for Saturday, January 2, 2027, at 8:00 PM ET and 5:00 PM PT, the network announced. The first episode will air following an NFL game.

New episodes will then move to Thursdays at 8:00 PM ET and 6:00 PM PT, beginning January 7, 2027. David Boreanaz stars in the title role, with Michaela McManus, Ilfenesh Hadera and Jacki Weaver also in the cast.

To promote the launch, NBC opened a hotline, (760) JIM-ROCK, modeled on the answering machine messages from the original show. The network also released a private investigator advertisement in which Boreanaz offers services covering infidelity, identity theft, extortion and embezzlement.

Mike Daniels writes and executive produces, alongside executive producers Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman and David Hudgins. Universal Television produces the series, according to screenrant.com.

From Garner to Boreanaz

The original The Rockford Files, created by Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell, ran on NBC from September 13, 1974, to January 10, 1980, with James Garner as Jim Rockford. It ranked No. 39 on TV Guide's 2002 list of the 50 greatest TV shows, and Garner returned to the role for eight TV movies released between 1994 and 1999.
