Room 418 to Adapt 'Night of the Living Dead' as Vertical Microdrama

Room 418 is developing a vertical microdrama adaptation of 'Night of the Living Dead' for its horror app, with an invite-only beta launch planned for this fall.

Room 418 is developing a vertical microdrama adaptation of the horror classic Night of the Living Dead, the company announced. The project is one of 10 original and adapted titles that have been optioned and are in development at the studio.

The adaptation will be built for Room 418's upcoming horror-focused app, which is set for an invite-only beta launch this fall. The company is working with KINO Studios on the app's product and technical infrastructure.

Room 418 is also co-producing an original project with Slash Management featuring Monse Gutierrez, and collaborating with REELi Studios on an original horror series inspired by Filipino folklore.

The push into horror comes as the genre has drawn fresh attention. Horror from emerging creators has been one of the stories of the year in film and TV, through successes such as Curry Barker's Obsession and Kane Parsons' Backrooms. Meanwhile, filming has wrapped on Twilight of the Dead, a horror pic considered the final chapter of George A. Romero's zombie saga.

Night of the Living Dead has been in the public domain since its original release due to an error by its original distributor. Dylen Postnikoff, who has been working at Blink49 Studios since June last year and helped shape the international profiles of Schitt's Creek and Anne With an E, is among the industry figures tied to the broader horror wave.
