Tangled Remake Wraps Filming, Script Reveals New Climax

Screenwriter Michael Montemayor shared a script page showing Eugene cutting Rapunzel's hair with Mother Gothel's dagger in the remake, due March 31, 2028.

Disney's live-action Tangled remake has finished filming, and screenwriter Michael Montemayor has given a first look at how the film's climax will differ from the 2010 animated original. Montemayor posted behind-the-scenes images on Threads, including a page from the script, according to movieweb.com.

In the remake's script, Eugene cuts Rapunzel's hair with the dagger Mother Gothel used to stab him, rather than the shard of broken glass he uses in the animated film. The page also shows Mother Gothel with additional dialogue as she ages, with Rapunzel replying that she does not know what love is.

Teagan Croft plays Rapunzel and Milo Manheim plays Flynn Rider. Kathryn Hahn takes the role of Mother Gothel, Caitríona Balfe plays Queen Arianna, and Diego Luna plays a new role created for the remake.

Michael Gracey directs the film from a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor. The Tangled remake is set to open in theaters on March 31, 2028.

What changes from the animated film

The 2010 Tangled, based on the Rapunzel fairy tale, grossed $592M. In the original film, Eugene grabs a broken mirror shard to cut Rapunzel's hair, stripping it of its magic, while Mother Gothel ages rapidly and falls from the tower.
