Jared Bush Says Zootopia 3 Will Add Birds and May Leave the City

The Disney Animation chief creative officer, speaking at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, said the sequel is in the works but has no release date.

Jared Bush, Disney Animation's chief creative officer, said at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival that Zootopia 3 will bring birds into the franchise's world and may take the story outside Zootopia City for the first time, according to Collider.

Bush, who is deeply involved in the story of the third film, said the sequel may be the first time the story travels beyond the bounds of the city itself. He also confirmed that Zootopia 3 has already been announced as in development.

No release date has been set. Bush said the film's arrival could fall in a few different years depending on how the movie and the films around it perform, and he noted that Disney Animation's films take four to six years to make.

An idea that goes back years

Conversations about introducing reptiles or birds to Zootopia date back about 15 years, Bush said. The first Zootopia was directed by Byron Howard and Bush, who a year into that project said they wanted to stay in the world and tell many stories.
