Ridley Scott's The Dog Stars Tops PVOD Charts After Box Office Flop
The sci-fi film, starring Jacob Elordi and Margaret Qualley, became one of the most popular titles domestically on PVOD after a disappointing theatrical run.
Ridley Scott's sci-fi film The Dog Stars debuted on the PVOD market in the week preceding the article and quickly became one of the most popular titles domestically, according to collider.com. The film stars Jacob Elordi and Margaret Qualley.
The streaming debut follows a disappointing theatrical run. The movie drastically underperformed at the box office, ranking among Scott's biggest bombs. 20th Century Studios overestimated the theatrical potential of The Dog Stars.
The film was produced on a reported budget of around $100 million, the same range as Scott's The Martian, his highest-grossing hit.
Scott's previous sci-fi film, Alien: Covenant, also carried a reported budget of around $100 million and grossed around $240 million worldwide, which was deemed insufficient for a sequel. Scott is now working on a follow-up to Alien: Covenant, as the Alien franchise has gained momentum with Fede Álvarez's Alien: Romulus and Noah Hawley's FX series Alien: Earth.
