Giacchino says Them! remake back on as merger settles
The director says scheduling conflicts and the Warner Bros. Pictures–Paramount merger had stalled the project, and the team is now returning to it.
Michael Giacchino, director of the planned remake of Them!, said the project is being revived now that the Warner Bros. Pictures–Paramount merger is settling, after scheduling conflicts and the merger had kept it from moving forward.
Giacchino gave the update in an interview with Screen Rant, saying that with the merger situation settling, the team is getting back into the project and that he hopes the film will be made.
He described the current version of Them! as a story about immigration told through a science fiction monster movie.
The remake was announced in 2023, and in 2025 it was revealed that Matt Reeves had boarded the project as a producer. The 1954 original follows giant ants terrorizing a community.
