Transformers: The Movie Sets First Japanese Theatrical Release for November 27

A Marvel comic adaptation of the film has surfaced ahead of its 40th-anniversary run in Japanese cinemas, inside-games.jp reports.

Transformers: The Movie will open in Japanese cinemas for the first time on November 27, timed to the film's 40th anniversary, according to inside-games.jp. Until now the film had been shown publicly in Japan only once, at a charity event in 1989.

The report presents a newly obtained Marvel Comics adaptation of the movie. In that adaptation, Galvatron is drawn in gray as the new Decepticon leader, matching how the character appeared in the Japanese Scramble toy campaign.

The film was produced by Hasbro as an original feature-length anime film that bridges the first TV series and Transformers 2010. It had originally been scheduled for release in Japan in summer 1987.

The Japanese release follows a long history for the franchise in the country. The TV anime Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers aired in Japan from July 6, 1985, after its US debut on September 17, 1984, while Marvel's Transformers comic series began in September 1984.

The Famicom game Transformers: Mystery of Convoy was developed in 1986 as a promotional tie-in, and Michael Bay's live-action Transformers film arrived in 2007.
