Waititi Defends 'Klara and the Sun' Against Critics After 28% Score

The director pointed to the film's 78% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, calling critics irrelevant in an Instagram post.

Taika Waititi posted an image of the poster for his film "Klara and the Sun" on Instagram on October 31, highlighting an audience score of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, according to Variety. In the post, the director described critics as "sad lost souls" and called them irrelevant, out of touch and obsolete.

"Klara and the Sun" opened in theaters last weekend at No. 15 with $720,000 from 880 locations. Sony scaled back the film's theatrical footprint after negative reviews.

The film is based on Kazuo Ishiguro's 2021 novel and stars Jenna Ortega as the android Klara. In a recent Vogue interview, Ortega said she does not read reviews of her films.
