Netflix has greenlit a sequel titled War Machines, with Alan Ritchson set to return as lead character 81 and Patrick Hughes back to direct and co-write, according to screenrant.com. The follow-up comes as its predecessor, War Machine, remains in Netflix's global top 10 for 2026.
War Machine is described as Netflix's biggest movie release of 2026. It reached number one globally on Netflix in 93 countries and surpassed 118 million views within its first five weeks on the service.
The film holds a 66% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 65 reviews. It had a limited theatrical release and is available to watch now on Netflix.
From cinemas to streaming
War Machine's limited theatrical run flopped before the film found success on Netflix. The sequel's screenplay is still being fine-tuned; it was reported in July that War Machines remains in early development ahead of production.
Hughes co-writes War Machines with James Beaufort. Netflix has not yet announced a release date for the sequel.
