Wildwood Tops $20M as Fathom Adds 150 Screens for Second Weekend

Fathom Entertainment projects a $7–8 million second frame, which would take the Laika film past $25 million through Sunday.

Laika's Wildwood has passed $20 million at the North American box office after eight days in release, according to Cartoon Brew. Distributor Fathom Entertainment added 150 screens for the film's second weekend, bringing the release to 3,103 locations across the U.S. and Canada.

Fathom projects a second weekend of $7–8 million for Wildwood, a figure that would push the film's total past $25 million through Sunday. The film earned approximately $2.4 million on Friday, with roughly 200 screens still to report.

Friday's gross was down about 18% from the film's opening Friday, excluding previews. The weekend projection implies a decline of 35–43% from Wildwood's $12.3 million debut.

Wildwood carries a reported $100 million production budget. The film is directed by Travis Knight and is the latest stop-motion feature from Laika, the studio behind Coraline and ParaNorman.

How Laika's previous films held

Among Laika's earlier releases, Kubo and the Two Strings opened to $12.6 million in 2016 and dropped 37.8% to $7.8 million in its second weekend. ParaNorman fell 38.7% in its second frame after a $14.1 million debut, while The Boxtrolls slipped 30.7% after opening to $17.3 million.
