AEON, Mujin launch robot-run Kawaguchi-Higashi XD hub

The Saitama facility supplies about 200 My Basket stores and uses more than 90 robots, AEON says, cutting daily labor by roughly 39 people.

AEON and robot control software company Mujin unveiled the delivery hub "AEON Kawaguchi-Higashi XD" in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture, on October 30, 2026, and the facility began full operation the same day. The hub supplies goods to about 200 My Basket small supermarket stores across the Tokyo metropolitan area, according to digitaltoday.co.kr.

More than 90 robots are deployed at the site, including 82 automated guided vehicles. Robotic arms stack products onto cart racks for shipment to each store, deciding the loading order and method themselves based on product weight and shape.

AEON says the automation rate at the hub reaches 50% of all processes and reduces labor by about 39 people per day. The president of AEON Global SCM, the company's logistics subsidiary, described the robots' productivity as 3 to 4 times that of humans.

Target of 80% automation by 2030

AEON aims to raise its work automation rate to 80% by 2030 and plans to eventually automate everything from inbound receiving to outbound shipping.

Market researcher Acumen Research and Consulting estimated the global physical AI market at USD 5.0212 billion in 2025, growing to USD 82.7909 billion by 2035. The Japanese administration has named physical AI as one of 17 strategic fields and aims for roughly 10.5 trillion yen in public-private investment by 2040.
