Thales Ties AI Governance to Data Security Posture Management at Seoul CISO Seminar

Jeff Chen told a DailySecu and Thales breakfast seminar that only 34% of organizations know where all their data is stored.

Jeff Chen, who heads sales engineering for Thales in Greater China and Korea, presented data security posture management (DSPM) as the foundation of AI governance at a CISO breakfast seminar in Seoul on October 29. The event was co-hosted by DailySecu and Thales at the Astor Suite on the 36th floor of The Grand Lotte Seoul, according to DailySecu.

Chen said roughly 80-90% of corporate data is unstructured and scattered across cloud, SaaS and internal servers. He cited a Thales data threat report finding that only 34% of organizations know where all their data is stored.

He framed DSPM as a complement to data loss prevention (DLP) rather than a replacement. According to Chen, DSPM identifies data-centric risks and sets the order in which they should be fixed first.

He also presented Thales' CipherTrust DSPM, which discovers structured and unstructured data across cloud storage, file-sharing systems and Microsoft 365, and identifies sensitive data. The scanner and gateway are installed in the customer environment, and results are delivered mainly as metadata, without sending original data to Thales, Chen said.

Quick answers

What did Thales present at the Seoul CISO seminar?

Jeff Chen presented data security posture management as the basis for AI governance and demonstrated Thales' CipherTrust DSPM, which discovers structured and unstructured data across cloud storage, file-sharing systems and Microsoft 365.

How does CipherTrust DSPM handle customer data?

The scanner and gateway are installed in the customer environment, and analysis results are delivered mainly as metadata, so original data is not sent to Thales.

Does DSPM replace DLP?

No. Chen said DSPM does not replace DLP; it identifies data-centric risks and prioritizes which to fix first.
