Amazon opens Alexa+ early access in Japan on October 29

The generative-AI assistant launches for buyers and owners of Echo and Fire TV devices, and costs 3,000 yen per month once early access ends.

Amazon began early access to Alexa+, its generative-AI-powered next-generation assistant, in Japan on October 29, 2026, according to kaden.watch.impress.co.jp. The service is available to people who buy an Echo, a Fire TV device or a smart TV with Fire TV that supports Alexa+, and to owners of supported devices who are being guided in sequentially.

According to Amazon, Alexa+ understands Japanese culture and customs, holds natural conversations and carries out tasks on the user's behalf. It can handle shopping, discovering new music and schedule management by voice, and restaurant reservations are planned for the future.

The assistant interprets intent rather than waiting for a direct order. Amazon's example is a user saying they are getting hot, which prompts Alexa+ to adjust the air conditioner temperature without being told to lower it. It also remembers preferences over time, including favourite music, the books a user often reads and foods they dislike, and adapts its conversational tone to the situation.

Local partners and pricing

Amazon said it will add features in stages. In Japan, planned integrations include restaurant reservations through Tabelog, food and daily-goods delivery through Uber Eats, food delivery through Demae-can and ticket purchasing through Ticket Pia.

Once early access ends, Alexa+ will be offered as a subscription at 3,000 yen per month. Amazon Prime members will be able to use it at no additional charge.
