Anycubic, Thingiverse launch 3MF model-sharing program Nov. 17

Selected Thingiverse models will be converted to multicolor-ready 3MF files for Anycubic printers, with designers required to opt in.

Anycubic has announced an exclusive partnership with Thingiverse that will bring selected Thingiverse models to its MakerOnline platform, according to Tom's Hardware. The program launches on November 17, the opening day of Formnext.

Under the arrangement, chosen models will be converted from STL to 3MF format so they can be printed in multiple colours on compatible Anycubic machines, including the Kobra X.

Participation is voluntary for designers: Thingiverse creators must opt into the program before their models are shared on MakerOnline. Creative Commons and Non-Commercial licensing terms will be preserved on the converted 3MF files, Anycubic said.

The partnership follows Thingiverse's change of ownership. Roughly eight months before the announcement, the platform was purchased from UltiMaker by MyMiniFactory.

Earlier in the year, Thingiverse CEO Romain Kidd said the platform belongs to its creators and users and that they would always be involved in its development. Anycubic was co-founded by James Ouyang.
