BMW has opened US order books for its new 3 Series sedan, marking the first time the model line includes a fully electric version. The car is built on an all-new platform called Neue Klasse.
At launch, the only electric variant is the 2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive. It features all-wheel drive with a combined 463 hp (345 kW) and 467 lb-ft (633 Nm) of torque. BMW expects a range of 446 to 468 miles (718–753 km) on a single charge.
The battery pack uses new cylindrical cells with a cell-to-body approach, part of BMW's sixth-generation electric powertrain. Gasoline-powered variants of the 3 Series are also available. The car is scheduled to arrive in showrooms in Q1 next year.
