Bose recalls 630,000 speaker battery packs over fire reports
Bose says it received at least seven reports of the lithium-ion packs melting, smoking or catching fire in its S1 Pro and S1 Pro+ speakers.
Bose has recalled more than 630,000 lithium-ion battery packs used in its S1 Pro and S1 Pro+ Portable Bluetooth Speaker Systems in the U.S., according to a recall notice published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The company said it received at least seven reports of the packs melting, producing smoke and catching fire.
More than 35,000 of the affected battery packs were sold in Canada, according to gizmodo.com. The packs were sold between December 2017 and July 2026 and retailed from $100 to $160 when sold separately.
Bose is asking customers to stop using the battery packs and to power the speakers only through AC power until a replacement arrives. Owners can request a replacement by submitting the 17-digit battery serial number on the recall landing page.
Which serial numbers are affected
Recalled battery serial numbers begin with codes including 083723, 078352, 084105, 078591, 078592, 084106 and 086409.
Bose also asked consumers not to throw the battery packs in the trash and to recycle them instead. In October 2025, the New York Fire Department reported 406 battery-caused fires in the city that year, with 70 injuries and nine deaths, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani suggested a fire that killed six people in Brooklyn that week might be linked to an electric bike, according to the New York Times.
