CISOs Prioritize AI Security for 2027 Budgets

A new Andreessen Horowitz survey reveals that 87% of CISOs plan to increase security spending in 2027, with a heavy focus on AI-driven defense tools.

Andreessen Horowitz released a survey on October 30, 2026, detailing the 2027 security priorities and budget plans of 100 Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) at large enterprises. The findings indicate a significant shift in corporate strategy, with 87% of respondents expecting their security spending to rise in the coming year.

According to DigitalToday, the survey highlights that AI-related tasks—specifically Security Operations Center (SOC) automation, internal AI agent security, and offensive security—will dominate the security agenda for 2027. While 92% of companies surveyed currently use generative AI tools and 83% utilize coding assistants, the adoption of specialized AI security tools remains in the early stages.

Currently, only 18% of the surveyed companies operate AI-powered SOC tools, and 13% have implemented AI-based offensive security or vulnerability remediation automation. However, the appetite for new tools is high, with 45% of organizations planning to purchase or upgrade internal AI agent security within the next 12 months.

This focus on AI security follows recent activity by the venture capital firm. In early October 2026, Andreessen Horowitz led a Series B investment round for the AI offensive security company Armadin and also invested in the endpoint agent security company Neo.

The urgency behind these investments is underscored by data from Bain & Company, which reported that AI technology can reduce the time required to execute a cyberattack from four weeks to approximately 18 hours.
