Crusoe sells unfinished Wyoming data center to Google in $17B build

Google will take over development of the Wyoming campus, which was first announced by Crusoe last year with Blackstone-backed Tallgrass.

Crusoe confirmed on Friday that it sold its unfinished data center project in southeastern Wyoming to Google, which will take over development of the campus and invest $17 billion in it, according to TechCrunch. Google did not disclose the purchase price paid to Crusoe.

Crusoe had tried and failed to land Google as a customer for the Wyoming project, and the sale of the site was first reported by Bloomberg in June. The company confirmed the transaction on Friday.

The campus was initially announced last year by Crusoe together with Blackstone-backed Tallgrass, with plans to scale it eventually to 10 gigawatts of power capacity.

The Wyoming sale came despite Crusoe raising a $3.9 billion round in September. The company is also developing another data center for Google near Amarillo, Texas, and its campus in Abilene, Texas, is being built in phases for Oracle and OpenAI.

Crusoe is constructing a separate 900-megawatt campus next door for Microsoft, with its first building expected to come online in mid-2027, and Bloomberg reported that trading firm Jane Street signed a $13 billion, five-year cloud deal with Crusoe.
