DoorDash Air Drone Delivery to Launch in Northern California
DoorDash unveils DoorDash Air drone delivery with Chipotle and Popeyes, plus text ordering and $8 returns at its Dash Forward event.
DoorDash has revealed new details about its drone delivery program, DoorDash Air, which will initially launch in northern California. The announcement came during the company's Dash Forward event, where it also introduced several other features.
Chipotle and Popeyes are among the first restaurant partners for DoorDash Air. The drone, equipped with six propellers, produces a cruising noise similar to a passing car at delivery height. According to DoorDash, around 80 percent of restaurant orders on its platform are small and light enough for drone delivery. In initial tests, delivery times averaged under five minutes from restaurant to customer's door.
Beyond drones, DoorDash is rolling out text-based ordering via the Messages app on Apple devices in the US, with a waitlist available. The company also announced that businesses will be able to connect DoorDash to internal apps and AI agents for ordering team lunches and restocking supplies.
In addition, Macy's, Anthropologie, The North Face, Vans, and Timberland are joining the DoorDash Marketplace. A new service called Dasher Returns will allow item returns for a flat $8 fee.
