Fujifilm to invest ¥10 billion to quintuple tape output at Odawara

The three-year program covers fiscal 2026 to 2028 and focuses on LTO Ultrium 10 tape, which stores 30TB uncompressed.

Fujifilm said on October 29, 2026 that it will invest about 10 billion yen to expand magnetic tape production capacity at its Odawara site in Kanagawa Prefecture to roughly five times the fiscal 2025 level, according to GIGAZINE.

The investment will run from fiscal 2026 through fiscal 2028 and covers additional production equipment and staff. Fujifilm said it is the largest amount it has ever committed to facilities dedicated to LTO magnetic tape.

The expansion centers on the LTO Ultrium 10 tape, which holds 30TB uncompressed and up to 75TB at a 2.5:1 compression ratio. The media uses fine hybrid magnetic particles that combine barium ferrite and strontium ferrite technology.

Fujifilm released the LTO Ultrium 10 tape last year. The company launched its first LTO product in 2000 and, in 2011, became the first in the world to commercialize barium ferrite magnetic material for magnetic tape.
