Google rolls out audio recorder to Gemini Notebook on Android and iOS
Recordings can run in the background and are capped at 1 hour, with the mic icon sitting beside the camera icon.
Google widely rolled out a built-in audio recorder in Gemini Notebook on Android and iOS on October 27, 2026, according to 9to5google.com. The feature lets users capture audio directly inside the app instead of importing a file.
The microphone icon sits between the camera icon and the Create New floating action button. Recording from the homepage creates a new notebook, while recording from the Sources tab saves the audio to an existing notebook.
The recorder includes a pause button, a checkmark that starts the upload, a themed waveform and a live count. Recordings continue in the background when the user switches apps or locks the screen, and capture is limited to 1 hour.
Google also changed the Create New floating action button: tapping it now starts a new notebook instead of opening the Add a source panel.
Earlier updates
In September, Google first announced the audio recorder. In October 2025, Gemini Notebook introduced Connected App integration, and the app later added a Live button in the Chat tab for real-time conversation with notebooks.
