GM unveils OnStar AI voice assistant, debuting on Cadillac LYRIQ
The assistant handles cabin temperature, range and route guidance by natural-language voice command, and arrives via over-the-air update in the coming months.
General Motors introduced OnStar AI, an in-vehicle voice assistant, at its GM Forward event in New York on October 21, 2026. The system responds to natural-language voice commands and controls vehicle functions as well as answering questions about vehicle status and features.
According to inews24.com, OnStar AI can adjust cabin temperature, report remaining range to a destination and provide route guidance that includes charging stops.
The assistant will first reach the Cadillac LYRIQ through an over-the-air software update within the coming months, before rolling out to other vehicles.
GM also outlined a new OnStar mobile app due to launch starting in 2027. It will replace the existing OnStar Guardian app along with the Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick mobile apps.
Among the connected features described at the event, a camera function will record video with vehicle cameras when certain situations are detected, send the footage to the app and notify the customer. Recordings are encrypted, time-limited and not accessible to GM. OnStar Family lets family members share destinations, coordinate pickups and manage other vehicles, while OnStar Fleet Intelligence for business customers combines vehicle status, maintenance and fuel or energy usage data that can be queried through the AI assistant in natural language.
GM additionally showed Concept Horizon, a reimagined vehicle interior for the autonomous-driving era with an integrated user interface that adapts to occupants' preferences.
