Google fixes Gemini for Home errors and Nest speaker bugs in new update

The rollout also brings Matter device icons, real-time energy monitoring and firmware fixes for Chromecast with Google TV and Nest Wifi.

Google released an update for Gemini for Home and the Google Home app on October 30, 2026, alongside firmware fixes for Nest and Google Home speakers, Chromecast with Google TV and Nest Wifi, according to Android Police.

On the Gemini side, requests to move music between rooms should now work more reliably, and the assistant should return fewer "Sorry, I did not understand" responses, including those triggered without speech. YouTube TV voice commands on smart displays are also understood and triggered more reliably. A bug that could set alarm and timer volumes to zero is fixed, and those volumes now match the device volume. Asking Gemini to change the volume on a device in another room no longer adjusts the speaker being spoken to when the intended device is not found.

Matter devices and thermostat shortcut

The Google Home app on Android now recognises specific Matter closure types such as garage doors, gates, windows and cabinets and shows the correct icon and controls. Compatible Matter smart plugs and energy monitors display real-time power usage and cumulative energy consumption on device tiles and control screens. A shortcut to switch to an energy-saving temperature was added to the thermostat controller and Home View, and Android foldable phones get a better camera live view when folding or unfolding.

Chromecast with Google TV HD and 4K receive the August 2026 security patch plus connectivity, streaming and display improvements. Nest Wifi router and Wifi point firmware adds enhanced mesh network resilience, DNS fallback and stability improvements.

Google Home and Nest speakers get smoother streaming with less boomy bass and clearer playback at low volume. The fixes cover disappearing speaker groups, Wi-Fi 7 connection failures and Bluetooth playback pausing after a resume command.

Older Nest cameras migrated to Google Home get improved Wi-Fi reconnection and a fix for slow night vision activation on first-generation Nest Cams. Nest Hello gets resolved audio sync issues, fewer unexpected restarts and better person and Familiar Face detection, while Nest Cam IQ models receive a status light fix.
