Google rolls out 42 fixes for Home app and Gemini for Home

Google has released software updates for the Google Home app and Gemini for Home, detailing 42 fixes for cameras, doorbells, speakers and the app itself, according to ZDNET. The release notes cover stability, Gemini command understanding and faster device reconnection after network timeouts.

On the Gemini for Home side, the update improves how the assistant handles transferring music between rooms and its awareness of which room a speaker is in. Google also fixed a case where a command to change the volume in another room was answered by a nearer speaker, along with timer and alarm volume problems and unprompted responses from speakers and displays.

The Google Home app received several targeted repairs. An iOS live view error that showed “Video Not Available” at the end of an event has been fixed, as has an error triggered by folding or unfolding a foldable Android phone during live camera viewing. A bug that made devices such as Nest Thermostats appear Offline on iOS was also addressed.

Cameras were another focus. A software update addressed cameras stalling or crashing when reconnecting after brief interruptions, and for the wired 1st-gen Nest Doorbell the update improves Familiar Face detection and audio/video synchronization.

Software updates for Nest Cam (1st gen), Nest Cam Outdoor (1st gen), Nest Doorbell (wired, 1st gen / Nest Hello), Nest Cam IQ Indoor and Nest Cam IQ Outdoor have migrated to the Google Home app. Google is continuing to phase out the older Nest app as devices move to the Google Home app.
