Google extends voluntary exit offers to five more countries
The program now covers Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Switzerland, while Google Cloud and DeepMind are excluded, a spokesperson said.
Google has expanded its voluntary exit program to Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Switzerland, the company said, as it looks to curb costs tied to its artificial intelligence investment. A Google spokesperson said the program was extended to several additional countries starting in June. The company did not confirm how many employees accepted the new offer.
Google Cloud and DeepMind, the company's cloud and AI units, were excluded from the program, according to digitaltoday.co.kr.
The expansion follows earlier workforce moves. In January 2025, Google offered voluntary exits to some employees, and in April 2025 it cut hundreds of jobs in its Platforms & Devices group.
Alphabet, Google's parent company, had 204,757 employees at the end of September, up from 190,167 a year earlier. Its headcount has continued to rise even as the company trims costs in parts of the business.
