IKEA Launches Free Second-Hand Marketplace in the UK

IKEA's second-hand platform lets UK users buy and sell used IKEA furniture, with no commission fees for now and a 5% buyer protection fee from 2027.

IKEA has launched its second-hand marketplace in the UK, according to techradar.com. The platform lets users buy and sell used IKEA home furnishing products directly with one another.

The marketplace includes categories for IKEA lighting, smart home and home electronics. Mattresses, appliances and food cannot be listed.

Sellers can create a listing by uploading a photo or by searching their previous IKEA purchases. Payment can be taken as cash or as an IKEA digital refund card, the latter adding a 15% top-up on the price.

There are currently no commission fees for buyers or sellers in the UK. From January 1, 2027, buyers will need to pay a 5% "buyer protection" fee.

Where the marketplace already operates

In October 2025, IKEA's second-hand marketplace was already live in Sweden, Spain, Norway, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal and Poland. Competitors charge for parts of their second-hand services: Vinted and eBay apply buyer fees of between 2% and 8% of the list price for items bought from private sellers, while Facebook Marketplace is free for local collections but charges a 10% selling fee for delivered items.
