Jeonju Hanok Village Lodgings Get Remote Solar Power Via VNM Pilot

Jeonju City Energy Center says three guesthouses in Jeonju Hanok Village are receiving renewable electricity from a remote solar plant through a Virtual Net Metering service.

Jeonju City Energy Center announced it has been running a pilot Virtual Net Metering (VNM) renewable energy service for three lodging facilities in Jeonju Hanok Village since September, according to aitimes.com.

The pilot links output from a remote solar power plant owned and operated by Sewon E&S to the electricity consumption of the participating facilities, using Shinsung E&S's VNM service. That service operates under a regulatory sandbox demonstration exception.

The three facilities taking part are The Jeongga, The Hanok and Moran in Jeonju Hanok Village. Each is linked to renewable electricity equivalent to 3 kW of solar capacity, with about 200 kWh per facility per month applied until July 2028.

Jeonju City Energy Center expects each facility to cut about 255 kg of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

Part of a wider green lodging effort

The project is part of the 2026 Hanok Village Green Stay E-Efficiency Cooperation Project jointly organized by Jeonju City Energy Center and the Korea Energy Agency. The three facilities also take part in the Jeonju All-Turn Green Stay carbon-neutral lodging project run by the Jeonju Council for Sustainable Development.
